Color-Coded Revision Strategy (Reflection)

After learning about the color-coded revision strategy I can confidently say that is one of the best and most effective ways to identify and correct mistakes in a draft. Not only does it make the process more visually appealing , but it also makes the writer have fun while revising. By highlighting each sentence with a specific color based on different criteria, it’s easier to find what may be incorrect, missing, or out of place in the text. Color coding makes the process of revision less daunting and more exciting.

In my personal experience, I’ve normally used color coding to memorize and organize information, especially during study sessions. However, after today’s class, I learned that I could apply this same method to improve my writing skills and overall work. This was a complete game changer for me. The process of assigning colors to different types of sentences gave me a new perspective on how to revise and correct my drafts. It helped me realize over-use of certain areas and lack of others.

At first I didn’t understand quite well where each sentence fit best into, but as I was color-coding my second draf i managed to understand more the differences between each category. One of the major things that I found out was the overuse of action and a lack of transitions and descriptive elements. This helped me a lot since it showed me where my writing could improve before submitting the final project. By adding more transitions and descriptions, I am confident my final work will be more coherent and well structured. This method instantly became one of the best pieces of revision advice I’ve ever received, and I plan to use it more frequently for future assignments.

For my next assignments, I would like to talk more about adding citations to our texts, how to improve my transitions between paragraphs, and, i would also like to talk about more ways to improve my revision process. I believe that these specific subjects would help my writing process and make my future assignments be more polished and well structured.
